Job STANDARDS

Position Summary

The Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of PJM's accounting records and their adherence to generally accepted accounting principles ("GAAP"). Specifically, the Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining general accounting functions related to interconnection billing and supporting broader financial transactions related to cash, receivables and accounts payable. The Financial Accountant is responsible for month-end and year-end close procedures along with supporting the quarterly reviews and annual financial audit of PJM.

This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements. Please consult with your manager to confirm options for flexibility. Business needs and/or on-call responsibilities may require you to report to campus.


Essential Functions:

  • Maintain the billing module in SAP as it relates to interconnection billing.

  • Analyze interconnection project activity and provides analysis to developers on a monthly basis on interconnection project status.

  • Prepares and issues monthly interconnection bills to the interconnection service developers.

  • Prepare journal entries for entry into the general ledger system on a daily basis by collecting necessary data, analyzing and/or allocating costs and preparing audit trail support for the journal entries.

  • Creates an acceptable audit trail around interconnection projects to facilitate review. Prepares audit documentation for annual financial audits.

  • Develops new methods for analyzing and reporting on interconnection projects in conjunction with a changing environment and work with other departments to streamline and improve processes.

  • Assists Controller, as applicable, in developing and preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and is directed by the Controller in these reporting activities.

  • Contribute to special projects within the department and/or division as necessary.

  • Become a backup for month-end processes within the department.


Characteristics & Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent work experience

  • 0-5 years of work experience

  • Experience with financial analysis: ability to visualize and solve complex problems and produce high-quality work products

  • Attention to detail and communicate effectively in a team environment; Confidence in verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (MS-Word, MS-Excel and MS-PowerPoint)


Preferred:

  • MBA degree

  • Experience with SAP
